Proposed plan for Regimental END-X 15 March 2025
When it comes to managing the tasks inherent to the dissolution of the Regiment there is an impressive list of tasks to accomplish, logistical, financial and procedural. Organizing the various tasks in phases which will somewhat parallel our meeting schedule seems reasonable. Progress may well take one or two years.
Phase one:
1. Propagate the plan to all members. Include a clear statement that items held by the regiment that are the personal property of a member will be identified and tagged as such.
2. Establish date for the identification process. Any dispute over an item will be settled by a committee of three. The committee will accept statements by petitioners, discuss the matter in private and announce their decision.
3. Inform the 340th command of our intentions and solicit their input.
4. A decision on the allocation of funds is required as one of the final actions. Establishing the decision early in the process should remove significant distraction.
Phase two;
1. Let members identify items to personally retain. (or hold an auction with the BBQ)?
2. Identify the destination for individual items. Destinations may be multiple holdings, for example, State Military Museum, Monterey County Historical Society or Camp Roberts Museum. This may involve input from representatives of these institutions.
3. Set time and condition where, when or if the collection might be auctioned to members.
Phase three:
Confer with the full-time leadership of the 340th BSB regarding what they might want for a permanent display. These might be items that are not branch or unit specific but would continue to mark the armory as a military facility, contribute to unit morale or the history of the Cal Guard.
Phase four:
Establish a weekend for packing the collection and delivery to its destination. Load on Saturday; deliver on Sunday. If arrangements can be made with the recipient to provide transport, so much the better. If delivery cannot happen on a weekend we need to determine how.
Phase five:
1. Inform State HQ. We need to determine the advantages and disadvantages involved in when and how State HQ is informed.
2. Should we plan some type of closing ceremony? The August BBQ is one alternative.
3. Close out financials (bank accounts).
